About the product
In food, packaging simply has to work. It has to hold its seal, protect the product and cause no trouble on the line. That is why we match food product packaging to the specific product and packing method — one way for meat, another for bakery, and different again for free-flowing products. As a manufacturer of printed film packaging, we make materials that are repeatable, seal well and look the same batch after batch. Below we show which laminate structures work for each group of food products.

How we match the laminate structure to the product
We don't pick laminate structures from a catalogue — we choose them for the product and the conditions it will live in. We take into account the product's sensitivity (to oxygen, moisture, fat, aroma and light), the packing method (manual, automatic VFFS/HFFS, flow-pack, trays, vacuum, MAP), the required shelf life and the storage and transport conditions. On top of that we factor in the realities of the line: the seal window, material feed, coefficient of friction and batch-to-batch repeatability. In practice we most often work with PET/PE, OPA(PA)/PE, BOPP/BOPP, BOPP/CPP, BOPP/PE and PE/PE structures, as well as metallised versions and EVOH-layer variants where a high barrier is needed. Increasingly we also propose mono-material structures (mono-PE, mono-PP) prepared for PPWR requirements. We confirm the barrier with OTR testing in our own laboratory.

Meat, cold cuts and poultry
Fresh and chilled meat, cold cuts and poultry are most often packed in modified atmosphere (MAP), vacuum or skin-pack. What counts is a high oxygen barrier, a tight, repeatable seal and no leakage. Typical structures: PET/PE, OPA/PE and PA/PE, with EVOH-layer variants for longer shelf life. In skin-pack we match the bottom (tray) and top films so that they cling tightly to the product and show it off on the shelf. For sliced cold cuts, good stiffness and clean easy-peel are useful.

Fish and seafood
Fish and seafood are exceptionally sensitive to oxygen and fat oxidation, so they require a high barrier and a reliable seal. Skin-pack and MAP on PET/PE, PA/PE and EVOH-layer structures work well here. Skin-pack additionally holds the product in place, limits weep and presents a fillet or portion nicely on the tray. For freshness and appearance throughout shelf life, the right barrier and a stable seal confirmed on your own line are decisive.

Cheese, dairy and ready meals
Cheese, dairy and ready meals are most often packed on trays sealed with lidding film and in MAP. For slices and portions we match the barrier and clean easy-peel, so the pack opens easily but holds its seal. Typical structures: PET/PE and OPA/PE, PET lidding films for PP/PET trays, and heat-resistant variants for pasteurised products. For ready meals with sauce, it is important that the seal withstands edge contamination and feeds stably on the automatic line.

Bread and bakery products
Bread and bakery products need packaging that 'breathes' and doesn't fog up while still protecting against drying out and damage. For fresh bread we use films with macro-perforation (hot perforation up to 1000 mm), and for longer-shelf-life products, barrier structures with a reliable seal. Typical solutions: BOPP/BOPP and OPP with macro-perforation, bags and flow-pack wrapping, and for small confectionery, flow-pack with clear print. We set the perforation and barrier for the specific product and shelf life.

Vegetables, fruit and fresh salads
Fresh vegetables, fruit and salads call above all for clarity and moisture control. An anti-fog coating prevents water vapour from condensing, so the product stays visible through the pack even in the chiller. Where the product needs to 'breathe', we use macro-perforation. Typical structures: CPP and BOPP in anti-fog versions, perforated PE films, and packaging for flow-pack lines and lidding-film trays. The aim is a fresh look on the shelf, less condensation and longer shelf life with no loss of quality.

Frozen food
Frozen food is most often packed in flow-pack (a flat pouch), and the packaging has to keep its strength and a reliable seal at low temperatures and through cold-chain logistics. Typical structures: PE/PE, BOPP/PE and PET/PE, chosen for puncture resistance and performance in the freezer. A large print area lets you show the product and variant clearly, and a stable material reduces pack cracking in the warehouse and in transport.

Coffee and tea
Coffee and tea are the classic case for a high barrier: aroma protection and an oxygen and moisture barrier are what matter. The most popular format is the doypack, often with a degassing valve for freshly roasted coffee and a zip for resealing. Typical structures: PET/PE and metallised PET/PE for a strong barrier, and — as a direction towards PPWR — mono-material structures (mono-PE) with a barrier coating or EVOH that reduce aluminium while retaining aroma protection. For loose-leaf teas and tea bags, we match the material to the format and packing method.

Dried fruit, nuts, granola and snacks
Dried fruit, nuts, granola and snacks are sensitive to fat, moisture and aroma loss, and are often sold in several variants. A doypack with a zip (resealable) works best, or with a window where the product 'sells on sight'. Typical structures: PET/PE, metallised PET/PE and BOPP/BOPP where gloss and stiffness count. A large print area makes it easy to tell flavours apart and keep a consistent look across the whole product line.

Free-flowing products: flour, sugar, groats, pasta
Flour, sugar, groats, rice and pasta are free-flowing products where mechanical strength, a moisture barrier and a reliable seal at higher weights are what count. Typical structures: BOPP/PE, paper/PE and PE/PE for bags and bulk packs, and for products that need better presentation, BOPP/BOPP with good gloss. The pack has to survive handling and pallet stacking without tearing, so we match the thickness and structure to the real logistics.

Sweets and confectionery
Sweets are packed on fast lines: flow-pack for bars, biscuits and wafers, and twist film for hard sweets and toffees. What counts is shelf appeal, a repeatable seal and stable running at high speeds. Typical structures: BOPP/BOPP (transparent, matt, pearl, white), BOPP/CPP and PET/CPP twist films; for temperature-sensitive products we use a gentle cold-seal closure. Matt/gloss contrast and a metallised effect lift the appearance without any loss of function.

Spices, sauces and condiments
Spices, sauces and condiments are most often sachets and small packs, where a high moisture barrier and aroma protection are key. Typical structures: metallised PET/PE and high-barrier laminates (including EVOH-layer versions), formed as flat three- or four-seal sachets. For liquid and semi-liquid products we match the structure to a reliable, tight seal and running on sachet machines. Flexographic printing keeps small descriptions and codes legible batch after batch.

Frequently asked questions
Will you help me choose the right film for my product?
Yes. Based on the type of product and its storage and distribution conditions, we design the film construction so that the packaging meets requirements in practice.
What certificates do you hold?
The company holds quality certificates, including BRCGS Packaging Materials, confirming production safety and compliance with the highest industry standards.
Do you test quality in-house?
Yes. The company has its own modern laboratory where it carries out quality and strength testing, ensuring production safety and repeatability.
Do your materials keep pace with recycling requirements?
Yes. Mardruk invests actively in innovation, research and development, implementing technologies aligned with market trends and recycling requirements (including PPWR).
Can I get samples before ordering?
Yes. For new launches we make samples or a short trial run to check the seal, feed and behaviour of the film on your own line.
